U-Boot for the LinkStation v2 will load "non U-Boot" kernels.
The mips kernels don't start at relative address 0 in the file so
a normal or gzip-ed ELF kernel image is required.

You will need to replace your module utils with the ones in
module-init-tools-3.3-pre1.tar.gz. Rename your old ones and untar
the package in /. The utils in the package will work with 2.4 kernels.
